What to say if ICE comes for you or someone you care about

I’ll start by letting you know that experts say we need four hugs a day to maintain good health. So, hug the people in your life. Extend compassion wherever you can. Most of us are desperate for it.

Trump’s war against people who come through our Southern Border intensifies.

He declares an end to Birthright Citizenship – which was immediately challenged in the courts. Meanwhile ICE is deployed to a number of U.S. Cities. In some jurisdictions, local and state officials assist with it. Hundreds have already been arrested.

Could you or someone you love be next?

It’s essential that everyone know their Constitutional rights in this context – rights which emanate from the 4th Amendment protection against unreasonable searches and seizures, and the 5th Amendment protection against self-incrimination. And yes, these protections extend to citizens and non-citizens alike.

The Immigrant Legal Resource Center produces these very handy red cards which detail what to say if ICE comes for you. (The card I show below is English/Spanish - but over a dozen other languages are available.)
