Hi Julie - I've definitely lived this experience. Valerie Burton in "It's About Time" calls the phenomenon "tidsoptimism" - that capacity to think you are able to accomplish much more than is possible in a given amount of time - like getting through SFO in an hour (or in my case OAK on the President's Day weekend). These days -- take Lyft - you would have made it!

Yep I was trying to save money - parking garage cheaper than a Lyft both ways!

Oh my gosh! This is my life and your story is my fear - and I know it’s gonna happen. Or maybe it has and I forgotten it because I keep getting away with doing one last thing before I go.I love having a word for that “tidsoptimism”. Now what do I do after reading this, what happens tomorrow when I need to be somewhere at a certain time?

Julie, thanks, as always, for writing about things that “get” to me.

Someone would say it's a character flaw, but most of the time it works and feels like a superpower lol!

More than the universe saying no I wonder why we put so much pressure on ourselves to perform in a world that doesn’t work the way it used to. Our nervous systems pay such a price from our reluctance to see Another way. I have shifted my awareness of my tolerance level to a reframe of how i can co create a more easeful way to bring harmony within a paradigm that requires a spiritual redesign.

You fly out of SFO on United to O'Hare when you could fly out of SJC on Southwest to Midway? WTF. Flying out of SFO? Well, Duh! I'm surprised something like this hasn't happened to you sooner. But it is nice to know I'm not the only one who always assumes there is gas in the car, the lights will be green and there won't be much in the way of traffic.

My dad always said "ten minutes early is ten minutes late" and my mother was bound an determined to, just ONCE, be the one to arrive ahead of him; never happened. And, being married to a guy who thinks ten minutes late is acceptable is hard on my so my compromise is to be late for the things he plans and early for the things I plan. Sigh...I just see obstacles to avoid and he sees extra time to finish something before he leaves so I think it's a glass half full/empty issue. Good luck on your next airport run.
