What a beautiful tribute. It's clear her legacy lives on through your work, as well as the impact she made in the community. Sending all my loving condolences to you and your family.
Such an inspired and inspiring woman. I love how clear minded she was. Fostering education for all and caring for others, especially the marginalized - she was ahead of her time. Thank you for sharing this. And thank you for living your life by her example.
Thank you Kim. Someone should make a movie about her. This little white girl who grew up poor, and endured abuse, in Northern England, who in 1962 at age 22 moved to West Africa of all places to teach, and fell in love with a tall dark African American twice her age who was a single father of four teenagers. Who does that? Well I'm glad she did because that's the only way I got here!
The passing of a such accomplished person is always sad, but her life would keep inspiring other generations, as I can see from the work of her descendants.
What a lovely tribute you've written for your remarkable mother. She lived an extraordinary life that honored people and intellectual curiosity. I know she inspired her students, community and children. She's left a wonderful legacy. My deepest condolences to you and your family.
Beautiful, Julie. Just as she was in all that she did. And thank you for adding that photo from our 1974 RCDS yearbook. Jeannie will always be that badass woman to me!
Rachel, I should have asked permission from .... someone... but forgot. In any event, thank YOU for resurfacing it. She was a badass before anyone used the term!
