"All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

For there is a force of love moving through the universe that holds us fast

and will never let us go.".

Your ritual is beautiful and rich with meaning. The moisture I felt, as I read your words, was from my own tears. What wonderful memories you have created, Julie.

all we've got against these vast storms is each other. But when some force, call it Mother Nature, call lit the Universe, call it God, call it whomever shows up and has your back, it's mindblowing.

Our family has had Winter Solstice traditions for over a decade, based somewhat on the Roman Saturnalia (the kids get to somewhat run the show, and challenge each other to stay awake until sunrise - whoever falls asleep has to make breakfast - but I also insist on it being screen-free time sunset to sunrise). Chinese tradition is to wear new clothes on Winter Solstice, so that is also when my MIL usually has the year's new flannel pajamas ready. I love the photo of you & your mom with the sun rising behind you, if it's high enough resolution when I snag it I'm going to make you a color lithophane as a gift with that image that I think will help your heart in the times ahead - I'd been meaning to ask you for an image to turn into a lithophane for you, but this one seems perfect. I make them as gifts to people I know are hurting, to help them remember that they have to let the light shine through to fully perceive the beauty of what they have, and I feel that you would appreciate that tangible reminder that the stories you share are cherished beyond your ability to comprehend.

May we all be as blessed with love of our family in our final days in ways similar to how your family is loving each other through this. You're doing this work so beautifully, and it is truly an honor to get to experience a portion of the light your life shines. I am deeply grateful for your way of existing in the world.
