Feeling pretty much the same way you are, Julie. It’s another gut punch in a series of gut punches that just don’t stop coming.

I never thought I’d live in a country that’s actively taking away people’s rights, freedoms, and the ability to survive. This is America. It’s supposed to be the land of the free, and we’re anything but. It’s nauseating. And it’s heartbreaking. I’m sickened by what they’re doing to anyone perceived as ‘other’. It’s hard not to feel powerless because it’s clear we have NO representation anymore.

Thank you for doing what you do. Shining a light into the darkness to let others know they’re not alone is powerful.

Thanks for speaking up about how you feel. It's like we all believed in different things all along or were never speaking the same language. As a student of American history this gives me a great deal more respect for those who fought in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries for a more perfect union. I used to think we were so much more evolved than them. Now I have a greater appreciation for how it feels to have everything happening all at once and to feel overwhelmed and to try to carry on with what is meaningful to you.

Yes it’s surreal to be dealing with and going about day to day life while having all this other crazy stuff going on.

Great idea with the flag, Julie. I’m pulling out my grandfather’s as well and going to do the same.

Just had this conversation at farmers market with vendor whose English is not his first language. I’m not celebrating …..I’m fearful and sad. But……my father who would have 101 tomorrow said during t.rumps first attempts…..” always fly the flag,no matter what or who is in power. It is your way to say I believe in America.”

So, I’ll have my flag up ,honoring my father and what he fought for

his whole life…freedom,equality,opportunity=🇺🇸.

Then the next day I’ll be back fighting against the money grabbing snake oil grifters that make up the current administration.

Our cabin is in a "Trump" county and now the talk is what will happen to the local hospital (of five beds plus swing beds from the nursing home if needed). The next nearest hospital is 115 miles away...unless you travel into Canada 65 miles away. Then there is the poisoning of the watershed if copper mining reopens. I am in disbelief the residents voted for him and still have their signs out - and that disbelief gains momentum with every article in the newspaper about the latest edicts from the land of X or Truth (ha!) Social. It will be slow to go away so I'm looking forward to the midterm elections, focusing on my local government (though I can't vote at the cabin), shopping where I feel ALL are supported, and donating money like crazy.

None of that changes how I feel about today (as you so very well articulated) but I'm not sitting on the sidelines and I want this to end so my kids have a future they don't blame me for. We all know better and can do better - I have to believe that and I know people like that; there is hope.
