I'm no expert.
I didn't study it in school.
I'm just a regular person like you.
The premise here is that we can get better at love, and that we want to.
I’m 53, about to be 54. I’ve been at love for over 40 years and I've keenly observed it. I’ve also grown a lot and my love-ability is stronger than ever. And, because I’m a human who wants to share what I’ve learned, in case it may be of use to you, and because, as Ram Dass said, "We are all just walking each other home," that’s what I’m trying to do: Walk with you on your journey, and if you like, you can walk with me on mine.
So tomorrow, Sunday November 14, at 5pm PST, I'm offering a two-hour conversation-based course on how to make love work over time. It is open to all people. All genders, all orientations, all types of relationship including monogamous, non-monogamous, and non romantic love. I’ll do some storytelling, and some advice-giving, and participants will share their thoughts and ask questions, and perhaps do some storytelling and advice-giving too.
I'm trying to create and hold a space that feels safe to all. One that is welcoming and available to you as a place of curiosity, kindness, and growth around this most important of human capabilities: the ability to love others. This conversation is by definition intimate and personal, and I'm aware that what I've experienced in life and in love shapes the perspective I will bring. But I hope in this class to offer ideas that are available to all no matter what identities you carry or what kinds of relationships constitute "love" for you.
The company through which I'm offering this course is called "Five Things I've Learned About..." So, in the course, I'm going to tell five stories about love from my life, each of which has lessons embedded. Then I’m going to ask what came up for you, what you noticed, and what you think it was all about. Then I’m going to weave your thoughts and everyone else's with mine and try to pull the lessons out, and then we’ll move on to the next story. At the end of our two hours together, I hope we'll all feel a lot more human, and more motivated to get out there and amp up our ability to love.
